Holy hospital was the place Beryl received the report about her womb. It was also the place she did several abortions.
In the doctor’s office, there sat a lady with an odd look. She wasn’t a green horn but a familiar person to both the doctor and some nurses coz she did series of abortion there too. Opposite her was the doctor who waited to hear her purpose of coming.
“Umm, doctor, i hope you remember me”
“Sure, by face but not by name”
“Okay” the lady adjusted in her seat. “I want to get married and i carried out a test in another hospital where i was told that my womb is damaged. If i can remember sometime ago, i came here for the same test but was told that nothing is wrong with my womb”
“Since then, have you done any other abortion?” the doctor asked.
“No doctor” the lady replied.
The result of the test was requested by the doctor and she gave it to him thus making it easier for him to locate her file from a large cardboard that stood behind his chair. He opened the file on his table then looked at the lady again.
“I gave you the same report young lady. Your womb is damaged”
“No, doctor, that wasn’t the report i received”
The doctor became confuse and summoned one of the nurses he normally work with. The nurse arrived wearing a white nursing dress standing aside. The doctor stared at her.
“I remember giving you a result about womb damage to give to this lady”
“Yes doctor, which was negative” the nurse said.
“What? It’s positive!” the doctor showed her the file. “Who did you then give the positive one?”
Already the nurse had started trembling. “Doctor, you know they were two ladies who carried out the same test on that day. I think i must have mistakenly swap the result” she said.
“Oh, Christ!” the doctor returned to the cardboard and brought out another file bearing the same date. He looked at it to see the name ‘Beryl Scott’ and her address. “This is the lady you must have given a wrong result, Beryl Scott. Have you seen how stupid you are! Do you know the implication of what you did? Do you know the emotional pains that lady must have been passing through?”
“I’m sorry doctor” the nurse apologized.
“Get out of my sight!” the doctor ordered.

Mr SCOTT RESIDENCE. TIME CHECKED: 4:00PM

Cheryl had been told everything about Beryl’s womb and she understood why she was encouraged by her to get married.
Nevertheless, the house was quiet and empty, both upstairs and downstairs. Beryl remained in her room without going to the office that day. Cheryl had also returned from school. She didn’t hesitate to tell Prisca about the party and what happened between her and Jaydan.
As quiet as the building was, a knock came from downstairs and Cheryl rushed out of her room. “Hold on, I’m coming!” she hurried down the staircase wearing a skirt. She opened the door to behold Gavin and his parents whom she welcome and offered a seat before running up to call her sister.
Beryl gently climbed the staircase wearing a long fairy gown she supported with her hand. After taking a seat too, she called Cheryl to come sit beside her for a reason Cheryl didn’t understand.
“My daughter” Mr Lewis began. “My son brought us here to apologize to you. Actually, he believed he was impotent until what happened last night. He call his doctor who said that the result was swap”
“And my son is ready to marry you. What happened between him and Ethel was totally my fault, and i regret it. Please, accept and forgive us” the wife interfered.
Beryl looked at Cheryl then asked, “What about Ethel?”
Before an answer was provided, a knock came from the door again and Cheryl opened it to see Ethel. She allowed her in.
Ethel stood before them in the room with her hands folded downward. “It’s a good thing I’ve met all of you here” she began. “Beryl, I’m sorry for what happened last night. My friend did that without my knowledge, and i want to let you know that i will not be a stumbling block between you and Gavin” she paused to know their reactions.
“Perfect!” Mr Lewis exclaimed. “And we will take good care of you and my grandchild” he added smiling.
“Thank you, sir” Ethel smiled too wanting to go but Beryl called her back. She stood up and hugged her. Gavin also stood up to them.
“I guess we are clear now. Please forgive us, Beryl” he said.
“Sure” Beryl hugged him too as the parents and Cheryl smiled.
Just then, the Holy Hospital doctor and his nurse entered to everyone’s surprise.
“Doctor” Beryl recognised him. “What brings you here?”
“We are sorry” the doctor said.
“For what?”
“The result about ur womb was swap. Your womb isn’t damaged”
Hearing that, Beryl fainted in Gavin’s arms. She woke up after a while and started shedding tears of joy embracing Gavin tightly. Others were also filled with joy as they joined them in a unification hug: Ethel moved first, followed by Cheryl before Mr and Mrs Lewis.

A minute of silence was observed between Gavin, Ezra and Beryl along the passage in the hotel. Gavin made sure the pregnancy result was totally out of sight but it was no use coz Beryl had already seen it.
“Honey, is anything wrong? What’s the paper all about?” Beryl asked again yet, no response. She glanced at Ezra who folded her hands suspiciously thereby increasing Beryl’s perturbation which made her yelled at Gavin. “I demand to know what’s on that paper!” she slightly pushed him and dragged it from him. After reading it, she raised her head up saying, “Somebody should explain this to me”
“Let me explain” Gavin began. “Ethel’s mother forced her daughter to me a month ago and i angrily gave in knowing that i can’t actually impregnat a woman. Just now, this lady brought this saying that Ethel has been hiding it from me”
“All what you are saying now is that Ethel is pregnant for you, right?” Beryl glared at Gavin. “You’re such a big lair. I knew you were making mockery of me when you told me you’re impotent too” she flung the paper at him and hurried out of the hotel angrily with Gavin pursuing her. Fortunately for Cheryl and Jaydan, they arrived with her car at the moment then she humped inside and closed the door.
“Beryl, listen to me.. Beryl..” Gavin called continuously until she drove out.
Cheryl and Jaydan glanced at each other wondering what was happening.
Gavin also entered his car and drove out running to the house.

However, music from the DJ continued driving people crazy to the extent nobody noticed what was happening except Ethel who stood up when Ezra arrived.
“Where went you?” she asked.
“Let’s go home” Ezra moved forward followed by her.
“I saw Gavin and Beryl hurrying outside. Any problem?” Ethel’s inquisition continued but there were no answers given to them.

Mr and Mrs Lewis were in the sittingroom when Gavin barged into he house running into his room. In the room, he brought out his dairy, opened several pages swiftly. He saw a foreign number he was looking for and dialed it immediately-that was the number of the doctor who diagnose him for low sperm count.
“Hello, doctor”
“Hello, who’s this?”
“Lewis Gavin”
“Oh, my God!” the doctor exclaimed. “Mr Gavin, you left to Nigeria without letting me know. Actually i have been trying to reach you but all to no avail. The result of your low sperm count was swap. It wasn’t for you. We are very very sorry for that”
Gavin opened his mouth widely in disbelief. “Doctor, are you actually saying that I’m not impotent?”
“You’re one hundred percent healthy Mr Gavin” the doctor replied.
“Thank you” Gavin hung up the call. He sluggishly went to the sitting room and collapsed on the couch.
“What’s it son? How’s the party going?” the father asked.
“It’s going well, Dad” Gavin replied.
“So, xup with the long face?” the mother added.
Gavin dropped the pregnancy result on the center table and told his parents the story, even what his doctor had said.
“That’s a good news son!” Mr Lewis stood up grabbing the paper from the table. “This is really good news!”
The wife smiled but wasn’t looking happy coz she knew it was all her fault. Gavin knew about it too but didn’t want to blame her thus letting the past be past.
“Dad, it’s a good news, yes, but I’m not gonna marry Ethel. Beryl is the woman i love” Gavin said.
“Marry whosoever you wonna marry son in as much as you’re okay” the mother supported.
“Fine by me too” the father added.

At Ezra’s apartment, Ethel boiled in anger after her friend told her what she did. Both were seen standing and walking angrily in the sitting room.
“You shouldn’t have done that Ezra!” Ethel shouted.
“Gavin had to know the truth. For how long did u intend keeping it from him?”
“But that doesn’t give u the right to do it without my knowledge!”
“The deed has been done already” Ezra walked into the room with a frowned face.

MR SCOTT RESIDENCE. TIME CHECKED: 9:05PM.

Cheryl returned home after the party gradually began to end. She saw Beryl’s car key on the floor of the sitting room. She looked at the cushion to see her jacket flung carelessly too. As she walked up through the staircase, she also saw her footwears on the stairs. “What’s happening?” she thought running to Beryl’s room. She pushed it open to see her trying to hang herself to death.
“Jesus! Beryl, what are you doing?” she rushed and brought her down from a stool she climbed on.
Beryl sat on the floor crying bitterly. Seeing her tears, Cheryl began to cry too.
“Why do you want to kill yourself, sis? Do you want to leave me like mom did?”
“Cheryl, is better i die than to live a fruitless life” Beryl replied crying.
“What do you mean?”
“Cheryl, i have no womb oh”
“What! Why? I mean how come?”
“It’s a long story I’ve been meaning to tell you and mom”
After thinking and shedding tears for a while, Cheryl embraced her in consolation…

Cheryl drove Jaydan right into their compound which was illuminated by light from different poles and bulbs. There was a swimming pool circulated by white light too. Both were seen sitting closely together on it’s edge in a way they played gently with the water using their legs. Cheryl wore a light sleeveless purple gown with a flower design at the chest region while Jaydan was in a three quarter short and a blue T-shirt even though he looked thin in it due to frustration from policemen.
“Why did you bring me all the way from the hotel?”
“Nothing”
“Nothing?” Jaydan looked at her.
“I just wanted to spend some time with you alone” Cheryl splashed water with her legs and bent down her head. “Is that bad?” she finally looked at him with a smile.
“No, actually i love it too. It’s too noisy at the hotel” Jaydan answered.
Both became quiet all of a sudden. The atmosphere of love and romance circulated the arena. That was actually what Cheryl wanted. She looked away from Jaydan but felt a hand that turned her head back to him in a way both stared at each other’s eyes.
“I really i appreciate all you’ve done for me” Jaydan began. “You stood beside me when i thought my world has ended. I have always wanted to say this; you are the one after my heart. I’ve always loved you”
Cheryl remained speechless feeling her whole body sunk with the glimpse of every details of his statement. Jaydan brought his head closer and began to kiss her which she reciprocated caressing his hair with a hand. Suddenly, he fell inside the pool and both laughed…

Back to the hotel, inside a lonely room, Gavin sat with Beryl on the edge of a bed.
“What are we doing here?” Beryl asked with a surprising face.
Gavin totally turned and grabbed her hands again. “You need to listen to me. There is something i want to let you know about me”
“You’re getting me scared. What’s it?”
“Back in the state i was diagnosed for low sperm count” Gavin stared at her to know her next reaction. It was as if she was dreaming as the stare lingered. She had once heard of coincidence but this was more than it so she withdrew her hands from Gavin’s.
“Are you trying to mock me, Gavin?” she asked.
“I just told you the truth”
“But how come?”
“I don’t know”
Both became silent believing that God must have brought them together.
“Listen, Beryl, we gonna adopt children, okay?” Gavin suggested.
“I’m okay with that” Beryl grabbed his hands back. “Let’s not bring the past again. What matters most now is that we love each other” she said.
It was like a heavy burden got relieved from their shoulders after they let out their secrets, yet, found themselves compatible. They gradually began to kiss each other making use of the larger area of the bed. Beryl raised her legs without breaking the kiss. Ever since she had the report of her womb, she had never had sex with any man. Therefore sexual feelings and sensation rushed down her whole body as the kiss went on. “You must be kidding” Gavin took a very good look at the result. “This is serious” he said.
Just then, Beryl came out to see him hiding the paper.
“Honey, whatsup with the paper?” she asked taking a glance at Ezra who wasn’t smiling..

Cheryl turned to see her sister standing at the door.
“Beryl” she called happily. “I heard the news about the so called Mr Edwin who used Rex’s parents for money ritual. At least the world knows that our family is innocent”
Without exchanging words, Beryl entered fully into the kitchen standing beside her sister whose mood suddenly changed coz she knew there was a problem whenever her sister keeps mute for such an interesting story she brought up.
“Sis? Any problem?” Cheryl kept the food flask before her and saw the engagement ring on her finger. She shouted happily and embraced her without minding her wet hands. “I knew you were pulling my legs when you said i should get married before u. Thank goodness you are finally engaged! Oh my God!” she exclaimed.
Beryl let out a smile not to be so mean to her sister coz seeing her happy always gives her some joy.
“Who’s the lucky guy? Tell me!” Cheryl asked curiously.
“Who do you think?” Beryl threw back the question.
“Gavin?”
“Yes”
“Yes! The long awaited moment is approaching very fast” Cheryl jumped in excitement.
“Okay, enough!” Beryl’s face and voice changed. She carried the food flask and said, “I saw you coming out from the police station with this flask. What were you doing with it there?”
Cheryl’s jumping and clapping stopped instanly as she lowered her face slowly to bring up another lie but her sister’s voice made her change her mind instantly.
“Don’t you dare lie to me again” Beryl had said.
“I gave someone food with it” Cheryl raised her head up.
“Who?”
“Jaydan”
“Why?”
Cheryl remained quiet and bent her head down again twisting her fingers. She wasn’t afraid to tell her the truth about her feelings for Jaydan but was afraid she might not approve it coz he wanted them dead.
“Is he your boyfriend?” Beryl asked.
“No” Cheryl shruggled her shoulder then became bold. “Sis, the truth is that I’m kinda inlove with him even before mom died. Though the relationship isn’t official yet because he has not made any approach. He only thought our dad killed his parents. Now the truth is out, i guess everything is okay. We should forget the past and never allow it come between us and the future” she concluded hoping it sounded convincing.
“You know what Cheryl..” Beryl took a steps forward. “Initially, i wasn’t in support of your love idea but i think I’m cool with it now. Let’s forget the past and never allow it come between us and future” she walked towards the door and slightly turned. “I have good news for you. Jaydan will actually be coming out of police cell tomorrow”
“Really? Thank you so much, sis” Cheryl ran and hugged her.

THE NEXT DAY AT GAVIN’S HOTEL
TIME CHECKED: 8:10PM

Gavin bailed Rex and his brother thus throwing a unification party at the hotel. Different colours of light could be seen shining and rotating at every angle as music blaze out from unseen speakers. The DJ was at a corner joking with the disk as people danced according to the beat of the hip hop music of a popular Nigerian artist, Davido.
Ethel and Ezra were invited by Beryl and, of course, Judith didn’t miss it since she loves partying especially the one that has to do with unity.
Jaydan and Cheryl sat opposite each other with a table in between them. They weren’t dancing rather drinking, chatting and admiring each other. As they chatted, Judith came behind Cheryl and said, “Better hold him tight coz people like me normally snatch boyfriends” she danced out while they giggled.
At another corner were Gavin and Beryl feeding each other with drink.
Ezra and Ethel weren’t dancing too. Both sat at a spot being entertained by others’ dancing steps. Unknowing to Ethel, Ezra brought the pregnancy report hoping to give it to Gavin without her knowledge.
I guess tonight gonna be a disaster.
Suddenly, the music stopped. Everybody looked at the stage to see Rex with a microphone.
“Good evening everyone” he began. “I thank God almighty and each of everyone of you who are here today. The purpose of this party is to unite together and forget the past without allowing it come between us and the future..”
“Woooh! Yes baby!” Judith shouted.
Rex continued as Jaydan joined him on stage. “We hereby apologize to our cousin brother, Gavin and his lovely fiancee, Beryl even Cheryl for everything we have done to them. We are deeply sorry”
Gavin hurried to the stage and embraced them likewise Beryl and Cheryl who dragged Jaydan down from the stage going outside. Beryl monitored them.
“What are we doing outside?” Jaydan asked.
“Come with me” Cheryl led him outside the gate and opened her sister’s car. “Get in” she said as she humped on the driver’s seat.
“Where are we going?” Jaydan was still inquisitive. Before he knew it, Cheryl set the car in motion..
Back into the hotel, the DJ slid another disk and people began to dance. Just then, Gavin led Beryl to a lonely room to tell her his past too..

Beryl watched her sister cross the road. She adjusted on her seat, whined up the front glass of the car as a way of telling Gavin to put it back in motion which he did smiling at the whole drama.
“Allow the little girl to explore and exercise her love to whosoever she chooses..”
“Not with Jaydan” Beryl interrupted with a frowned face.
“Why?” Gavin topped another gear thereby changing the velocity of the car.
“These are people that wanted us dead for goodness sake!”
“But you aren’t dead”
“My mom is”
Silence took over the car as Beryl looked away from Gavin and slid her hair backward. She concentrated on passengers who struggled to enter a cab as a way to forget the conversation but Gavin pushed further with it.
“These people are my cousins you know”
“Which people?” Beryl turned to him again.
“Jaydan and Rex”
“And so what?”
“You should consider your sister’s love for the poor boy”
“I don’t give a demn” Beryl concluded while Gavin let out a smile again.
Finally, they arrived at the restaurant. Gavin addressed a chair backward for her to seat.
“Thanks” she sat down likewise him. An order was made then the date kicked off. They discussed on how Scotryl Company will continue supplying it’s delicious juice to Gavle Silver Lounge Resort and how Gavin’s father has accepted Mrs Edna, his wife back thus making them a big happy family again.
Both became quiet for a while occasionally glancing at each other with a smile. Suddenly, Gavin leaned forward as if he wanted to swallow her.
“What?” Beryl leaned backward.
“When i look into your eyes i see so many things which i can’t really describe. You are such a unique lady but deep down inside, you’re bothered about something but i really want to let you know that love conquers all” Gavin grabbed her hands again on the table between them feeling her delicate palms and gently rubbing her fingers. “All I’m saying is that, i love you Beryl. Please, say yes to me and let our love grow stronger” he added waiting for her to say something. She wanted to withdraw her hands again but he held them tightly.
“Gavin, let go of my palms. Your hurting me” Beryl tried so hard to unlock his hands from hers. Luckily for her, he released them without smiling and his voice changed harshly.
“Why do you always act this way!?”
“That’s because I’m not the right woman for you!” Beryl’s voice began to break in cry. “I’m half a woman, Gavin. I’m a woman without a womb. Don’t you get it?” the tears finally dropped.
Gavin stood up from his seat, walked round and knelt beside her chair. Beryl didn’t understand what he was doing until he brought out a ring and said, “Then marry me my love, please”
“Are you crazy?” Beryl stood up.
“Yes, I’m crazy for you”
She couldn’t believe it. She looked around the restaurant to see other lovers looking at them with smiles on their faces. Some nodded their heads in a way of telling her to accept the proposal. Therefore she looked at Gavin again with a smile too but the tears continued rolling from her eyes,
“Yes, i will marry you” she brought out her fingers and Gavin put the ring in one of them. Surprisingly, people began to clap as they hugged each other..

EZRA’S APARTMENT.
Ethel had finished crying for her late parents. She sat on a bed inside the room with a pillow placed on her thighs. She was actually thinking about her future before Ezra entered with a food.
“Food is ready”
“I don’t wonna eat”
“You must be joking” Ezra sat beside her. “What is it?”
“Just thinking about how I’m gonna start a new life without my parents”
“What about the pregnancy? Don’t you think is time to let Gavin know he’s responsible for it?”
“No, i don’t want it to look as if I’m trying to snatch him away from Beryl, not now they’re together”
Ezra thought for a while. She quit the conversation and brought the food closer to them coz she knew that a time would come when Ethel will tell Gavin the truth without nobody forcing her.

Back to the restaurant, Gavin seated with Beryl both smiling continuously. She had already told him how she lost her womb.
“I need one more favour from you” Gavin requested.
“Okay?” Beryl drank her wine.
“I’ve talked to the DPO, he said Rex’s case is in your hands. You’ll decide whether he’ll go to jail or not coz the case is a murder one. So i beg you to close the case then I’ll bail him and his brother out”
“No problem. We can do that tomorrow”
“Really?”
“Yeah”
“Thank you so much”

The date ended happily and the atmosphere was changing to darkness when Gavin dropped Beryl at her place after kissing her. As he drove home, he heaved a heavy sigh. “I’ll tell her about my own past later” he concluded in thought.

Beryl entered into the house with a face full of happiness. She glanced at the ring in her finger again moving towards the kitchen where an aroma of food was coming from. Immediately she entered, she saw Cheryl washing the food flask..

Jaydan and his brother, Rex, rode in a police van while Beryl and Gavin in a private car-Gavin’s. They were running to the new residence of Mr Edwin as instructed by the senior officer. Gavin, who was on the steering wheel occasionally glanced at Beryl to see her quiet and lust in thought. She was actually thinking about the food flask she saw at the police station.
“Hey, is everything alright?” Gavin broke the silence.
“Yeah” Beryl replied then both remained quiet again. After the quietness lingered, she continued. “I’m actually wondering about something”
“What?” Gavin glanced at her concentrating on the busy road too.
“I caught my younger sister yesterday evening going out with a food flask. After series of fumbling answers she gave to me, she never went out again with it. Then as we went to the station recently, i saw the same food flask at the reception. I’m just wondering if..”
“It’s obvious” Gavin interrupted with a smile. “If you are sure the flask is yours, then your sister must have brought food for somebody there”
“And who could that be?”
“I don’t know. Maybe her boyfriend in the police cell” Gavin smiled.
“But she told me she doesn’t have a boyfriend” Beryl said thinking beyond scope. “Could it be that she brought the food to Jaydan coz she once said he is her school friend?”
“Exactly! If so, that means the little girl is in love. What a coincidence?” Gavin looked at her to see her reaction.
“No way! Never will i allow that happen” Beryl shook her head negatively with passion of hatred for the Innocent family who caused the dead of her mother and made them suffer. Gavin remained quiet seeing that she had become angry.

Mr Edwin and his wife were lying on the floor at gun point when Gavin and co arrived. He was shock to finally know that the so called Mr Edwin was Ethel’s father after seeing Mrs Veronica. They were also familiar in the eyes of Beryl too.
Rex gently climbed down from the police vehicle with his brother both on handcuffs. They were taken inside the building for them to confirm the dead bodies.
At opening the room, Jaydan began to shed tears while Rex tried to hold his own. They saw their dead parents a bit fresh vomiting money.
“Are they your parents?” the senior officer asked.
“Yes, sir” Rex replied. “But how come? Why are their bodies still fresh after all these while?” he added.
“The man will explain. Let’s go”
They came downstairs standing before Mr Edwin and announced that, yes, he was responsible for the missing and killing of Rex’s parents.
Hearing that, a shout from Beryl echoed in the whole building. She looked around whether to see Ethel but she was nowhere to be found. She brought out her phone, called her and told her the situation on ground but Ethel simply told her that she wasn’t and won’t be part of whatever that was happening there.
“Please, i will confess” Mr Edwin began as all listened to him making the senior officer change his mind from taking him to the station first. “I was frustrated by my wife’s money obsession a year ago. I lose my respect as the head of the family all because i didn’t have money. So i met a friend who introduced me to a ritualist. I was asked to bring a man and a woman. So i saw the two couple at a restaurant, poisoned their drink and monitored them on their way home. The poison killed them and i carried them to my house where they had to stay for weeks before my family and i drank a water that comes from their bodies. I was given a charm to prevent the bodies from decaying totally and from horrible smell..” before Mr Edwin could finish, he became dumb and held his throat battling with unseen spirit likewise his wife. Suddenly, both began to vomit blood and eventually died.
“Fuck you!” Rex exclaimed bitterly trying to kick dead Edwin but the police held him back as he started crying along with his brother.
“I guess it’s all clear now” the senior officer stepped forward looking at Rex. “It’s just unfortunate that the day this incident happened was the same day Mr Scott went on a business negotiation with your parents thus making you think he was actually responsible for their death” he concluded.

The news also went viral in the whole city and Ethel couldn’t bear it but to cry in Ezra’s apartment.
Jaydan and Rex returned to police cell but Rex was put alone in a private cell because of his health until the case would be finally settled and closed.
As Cheryl was returning to the police station to pick the food flask, so as Gavin was driving to pick Beryl for the dinner date at 5pm. He drove her from her office going to one of the most expensive restaurant. On their way across the police station, Beryl saw Cheryl trying to put the food flask inside her bag.
“Stop the car” she commanded then Gavin applied the break. “I was actually right about the flask” she said looking her sister crossed the road in a hurry.

Jaydan and Cheryl’s eyes caught in the police reception. The visit was a surprising one. Jaydan never believed he would see her there not to talk of bringing him food. So he shamefully sat on a long bench provided for people like him. He wore only a boxers. His complexion become darker than initial and his hair was totally unkept. He couldn’t look at Cheryl’s face as the policewoman handed the food to him. Mare looking at him, one can deduce that he had not eaten cooked delicious food for weeks.
“Umm.. officer, can i set with him?” Cheryl requested.
“If you want” she replied.
Cheryl walked into the inner chamber and sat beside Jaydan without minding how dirty and smelling he was. She didn’t say a word rather watched as he devour the food like a hungry lion that has not eaten for months. But to her greatest surprise, she saw tears dripping from his eyes into the food coz he was too ashame to raise his head up.
“I know how you feel” Cheryl began. “As a friend, i want you to know that i have no grudges against you..” her cell phone beep thereby interrupting her. She looked at it to see a message from Prisca that read thus: THIS STUPID LECTURER IS ABOUT TO GIVE TEST. WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU!”
Cheryl stood up instantly and said looking at Jaydan even though he didn’t raise his head up, “I have a test. I’ll come back to pick the flask after lectures. Bye” she hurried out. Just at the door, she slowed down to take another look at him feeling the pains he was passing through.

As the police were about to discover the new residence of Mr Edwin, so as Gavin and his mother returned to the residence of Mr Lewis, a father and a husband to them. They could be seen in the living room standing few distance before Mr Lewis and Judith. Already, Mrs Edna had gone on her knees with tears in her eyes while Gavin stood beside her.
“I pledge not to make the same mistakes i made in the past. Please, forgive me my husband and accept us back”
Judith waited for her father to say something but he didn’t make a comment which made her to drag his cloth secretly in a way to say: SAY SOMETHING NA!
“Alright, I’ve forgiven you” Mr Lewis finally said smiling at his daughter’s attitude.
“Yes!” Judith rushed and hugged the mother leading her to the father who also embraced her.
“Hey, Gavin!” she also embraced him but suddenly left to the bar as Gavin embrace his father too. Before they knew it, Judith came back with two champagne bottles.
“You know what, we gonna celebrate and forget the past coz it normally comes between us and the future” she popped one of them shouting. Only then did she remember to also share cups thereby making her to run back to the bar. The father and others giggled at her actions. She was a simple girl with a simple lifestyle.

The police finally arrived at Mr Edwin’s new residence. It was one of the biggest mansions in the city surrounded with electrified fence. The ground of the voluminous compound was tiled from beginning to the end. Five different latest cars could be seen parked at the garage.
However, the policemen had climbed down from their vehicles and knocked at the gate which the gateman opened before they entered admiring the structure of the building. Suddenly, Mr Edwin and the wife came out surprising to see them.
“What’s going on here officers?” Mr Edwin asked.
“Are you Mr Edwin?” the senior officer threw back the question with a hand in his pocket. Already, his men has surrounded the building.
“Yes? Any problem?”
“Do you know about one late Mr and Mrs Innocent?”
Hearing that, Mrs Veronica began to scratch her head coz the husband had once told her the owner of the dead bodies which was used for the money ritual.
“I don’t know about them” Mr Edwin replied.
“You were spotted with them sometime ago at a restaurant after they ended a business negotiation with late Mr Scott. After then, they suddenly disappeared”
“I have no idea of what you are saying”
“Sorry sir, but you are a suspect. You have to follow us to the station but before then, permit my men to search your house”
“No, no..”
Without listening to him, the senior officer ordered his men to search the house thoroughly.

Inside the house, one of the men entered Mr Edwin’s room. Of course it was modernized with each furniture sparkling. He searched under the bed, the wardrobe before trying to open a particular room but the door was locked. He shot the key off with his gun and couldn’t believe his eyes; bodies of Mr and Mrs Innocent vomiting money were seen. “Jesus!” he exclaimed running out. “He’s a ritualist! A ritualist!” he was shouting until he got outside. Hearing that, guns were pointed at Mr Edwin and his wife instantly as the body was confirmed by the senior officer who called Gavin and Beryl for them to come with Jaydan and Rex.
Unfortunately for Cheryl, when Beryl went to the station to bring Jaydan along, she saw the food flask..

Cheryl remained quiet and uncomfortable at the door without knowing the answer to give to her sister. She wore a pink skirt and blouse with a flat footwear. Her hair dangled on her face but she occasionally slid it backward as she watched Beryl finally climbed down the staircase. Thought it wasn’t night yet but she wore a white night gown. She stopped at the center table looking at Cheryl.
“I asked you what’s in your hand?”
“Umm.. sis? It’s a food flask” Cheryl slid her hair again uncomfortably.
“And i guess there is food inside. Where are you taking it to?”
“To eat”
“What?”
“I want to go and eat it”
“Where?”
“Outside”
“Why?”
“Umm..” Cheryl looked at the bag containing the food flask, raised her head, looked around the room and slid her hair again. “Sis, you know what? I’ll better eat it inside” she hurriedly began to go into the dining room but Beryl called her back and took a few step forward.
“Cheryl, I’m not a child. I know you want to give someone that food and i demand to know who he or she is.”
“No one. Seriously no one. Excuse me” Cheryl kept the food on the table and ran upstairs. Beryl wanted to call her back at least to continue the incomplete conversation with her but let her be at the moment.

MR LEWIS RESIDENCE. TIME CHECKED. 9:01PM.

The gateman of the building opened the gate and a car drove inside. There was light at different angle of the house illuminating the arena, even the light from the car enhanced the illumination as it stopped in front of the entrance. Judith rushed out happily wearing a mini skirt and high heel shoes which made her taller than Gavin regardless she’s the younger one. Though she wasn’t fair when she left Nigeria but became fair as she returned with a Brazilian hair.
“Mom! Dad!” she called running inside the house and leaving her luggage in the car for the domestic workers to carry. Immediately she entered, the father opened his arms and embraced her.
“Welcome my daughter”
“Thanks Dad” Judith looked around. “Where are mom and Gavin?” she asked.
Without replying the question, Mr Lewis sat on the couch.
“Dad, you aren’t saying anything”
“Your mom and brother aren’t living here anymore”
Judith chuckled and waved her head for the Brazilian hair to fling behind her. “You must be kidding me. Why?” she walked to sit on the chair hand-rest the father sat and placed a hand across the back-rest too. Mr Lewis told her everything so she became shocked standing up at the same time.
“I can’t believe this? Gavin is just.. oh my goodness!” she turned to her father. “Where are they now?”
“I have no idea”
“Dad?” Judith’s voice changed emotionally. She went back to her initial seat and looked at the father’s face. “Dad, i want you to bring them back please, they are the only family i know. Let the past be past and focus on the future. For my sake please bring them back. I miss them already!”
Mr Lewis wasn’t smiling until the daughter began to tease him.
“The great Lewis of Nigeria! The only man who opens up a coconut with his teeth but doesn’t chew a gum saying that it’s hard for the teeth. The man who sits at a spot and makes millions of naira! Atagata agbuo!”
Hearing that, the father began to smile. “Alright, enough with the teasing. I’ll bring them back tomorrow coz i miss them too” he promised.
“Yes!” Judith jumped up running to her room. “Home sweet home! I love Nigeria!!” her voice echoed.

THE NEXT DAY
Cheryl rushed down the staircase well dressed for school. She hung a portable bag behind wearing a jean trouser. “Beryl I’m off to school i have early morning lectures!” she shouted and hurried out. When Beryl heard her voice from her room upstairs, she looked through the window to see the bag hanging on her back. That was weird coz she doesn’t go to school with such bags. She waved it off and remembered the date with Gavin by 5pm then turned to sit on the edge of her bed. “Am gonna be courageous to tell him the truth today. If he truly loves me, he will accept me” she thought.

Cheryl got to the police station, brought down the bag, brought out food from it and looked at the policewoman at the reception. She could hear the noise of prisoners from inner part of the building. It sounded violently and harsh which made her wonder if at all Jaydan was still alive there.
“Who do you want?” the female officer asked.
“Umm.. Jaydan. I brought him food”
“What’s his surname?”
“Innocent” Cheryl replied as an afterthought.
“A relative or what?”
“A relative”
The officer ordered her to taste the food before she went inside to call Jaydan. Cheryl’s heart began to beat faster as she waited patiently. “God, what am i doing?” she murmured with a hand on her chest. Suddenly, she heard the officer’s voice shouting, “Move you criminal!!” Immediately she turned to the sound of the voice, she saw Jaydan looking frustrated and dirty then she remembered the time he took her to the school clinic..

“Let me get the door” Gavin stood up to the door. He became dumb at the sight of Ethel when he opened it. Both stared at each other for a while until Beryl began to wonder what was going on.
“Gavin, who’s that?” she stretched her neck as Gavin opened the door widely for the girls to enter. Beryl sighed to see Ethel walking in with another unfamiliar girl. There was something different about her she couldn’t put a finger on coz her mood of dressing totally changed. They stood at a spot in the sitting room while Gavin returned to his initial seat.
“Hi, Beryl” Ethel said with a smile that showed only her upper teeth.
“I guess you’ve come to make mockery of me again” Beryl glared coz the only person who knew about her womb issue was Ethel. In fact she was the one who advice her to have several abortions as a result damaging her womb.
“Umm.. sorry for interrupting” Ezra interfered. “Actually, we came to make peace not to make mockery of anybody. So please, offer us a seat”
Beryl glanced at Gavin whose heart also wasn’t stable coz he thought Ethel would expose him of sleeping with her in Beryl’s presence. But he was sure of two things he would defend himself with; First, Ethel forced herself to him. Secondly, he was impotent if at all she brings up the issue of pregnancy. But at the same time, he didn’t want Beryl to know about that, at least, not yet. How would he have known that truly he wasn’t impotent and Ethel is pregnant for him?
Nevertheless, Beryl offered them a seat..

Inside Cheryl’s room, she stood close to the window with two hands on the protector looking at the roof of other buildings outside but her mind was in what her sister said about marriage. At the same time, the thought of Jaydan filled her mind so she became totally confuse and picked up her phone to call Prisca, her friend whom she had told everything.
“Hello, Prisca” pause “I want to see you” pause. “Where are you?” pause. “Okay, I’m coming right now” she dressed up, rushed downstairs immediately and went out after taking permission from her sister.

“Beside me is my friend Ezra..” Ethel began looking at Beryl. “I brought her here to help me plead with you for forgiveness. I know I’ve wronged you by turning my back on you because of the man sitting beside you. All that was caused by my mother but I’m a changed person now. Please, forgive me”
“You see my friend..” Ezra moved in. “I want you to rejoice with the heavenly angels for this one soul that have repented and forgive her in any way she has wronged you”
“Even you Gavin” Ethel added looking at Gavin while her friend glanced at her surprisingly.
“Is he the Gavin?” she asked then Ethel nodded her head positively.
Beryl began to smile which gave them the notion that their opology had been accepted.
“I have no grudges against you” she finally said.
“Even me” Gavin added with a smile too.
“Thank you very much” the two ladies stood up and hugged Beryl before leaving..

Cheryl met Prisca at a love garden sitting alone with a book placed on her thighs. So she sat beside her with hands folded.
“Babe, you sounded urgent on the phone. What’s the problem?”
“It’s about Jaydan”
“What about him? Has he kidnapped you again?”
“No” Cheryl turned to face her. “Listen, in as much as he wanted me dead i still can’t stop thinking about him.”
Prisca closed her book and glared at her “Do you know you’re crazy?” she said but thought for a while. “Well, i don’t blame him neither will i blame you. He acted out of the loss of his parents. I feel for him shia.. Listen, Cheryl, if you really love him why don’t you go visit him at the police cell. At least get him a food”
“Abi, thanks” Cheryl ran out.

After Ethel and her friend left the house. Gavin also stood up. He knew that the atmosphere of love and romance had gone out from the room. Therefore he handed the bag full of clothes to Beryl and said, “I guess we can start from where we stopped tomorrow”
“Are u asking me out again”
“Definitely”
“Pick me up from my office by 5pm tomorrow”
“Sure”
Beryl opened the bag and smiled broadly, “Thanks so much”
“You’re welcome” Gavin walked out.

As Cheryl was preparing food for Jaydan, so as Gavin met the senior police officer in his office to know the progress of the investigation.
He adjusted on his seat.
“Sir how’s the investigation going?”
“We’re still tracking down a suspect named Mr Edwin” the officer replied.
The name sounded familiar to Gavin so he thought critically to remember where he heard it. After frustrating his memory cells without a valuable result, he waved it off. “Officer, please alert me if u discover anything” he concluded.
“Alright” they shook hands.

After a few hours, Cheryl carefully began to walk out of the kitchen with the food to give Jaydan. As she wanted to sneak out, Beryl caught her from the staircase and asked, “What’s that in your hand?”

Ethel left the hospital to Ezra’s apartment where she had been staying for a month without knowing the way about of her parents. She sat hopelessly on the floor of the living room with the pregnancy result in her hand. How can that happen to her now she’s a changed person? How would she approach Gavin? Just as she contemplated with a drop of tears, Ezra returned from work.
“Ethel?” she kept her bag swiftly and sat beside her. “What happened?”
“My mother has finished me” Ethel haphazardly gave her the paper of the result without looking at her.
“Oh, my God!” Ezra exclaimed with a hand on her chest. “Ethel, what’s the meaning of this? How did this happen? I mean who’s responsible?”
“His name is Gavin, the one my mother forced me to sleep with all because he’s father is a rich man. First, my mother and i frame a pregnancy report in a way to finally move into the family but we received the biggest shock of our lives: Gavin announced that he was diagnosed for low sperm count which mean he’s impotent”
“Then why this?”
“I don’t know oh” Ethel began to cry. She suddenly looked at Ezra. “Please, you have to help me. Follow me to my friend’s place. Her name is Beryl. I want to first apologize to her for all my wrong deeds towards her after noticing that Gavin was secretly inlove with her. I was only pushed by my mother”
“Is okay but what about the baby?” Ezra queried.
“I don’t know yet”
Ezra exhaled heavily then glanced at the paper again.

At the side of Beryl and her sister, everything went back to normal after since they buried their mother. The company had started functioning again and Beryl never hesitated to resume work. Though, Gavin had been visiting her but there was no sensitive or romantic talk in coz he didn’t want to receive another hot slap. But the truth remained that both loved each other. Who’s to make the first move again now?
At the residence of Mr Scott, Beryl returned from work. Without going upstairs she flung her bag on the cushion and collapsed there too. She wore a black plain trouser and black suit with white inner shirt which made her, of course, look like a boss and a banker. She had been worried about a particular thing; her womb. That was the only secret she kept from her sister and late mother hoping to let the cat out of the bag at the proper time. “Cheryl!” she shouted using her strength coz she was so exhausted.
Sooner did Cheryl rushed down the stairs standing before her. She wore a bomshort and a white top. “You called me”
“Seat down” Beryl tapped a seat beside her. That was strange. She had never called her sister in that manner which made Cheryl wonder what the problem could be. Nevertheless, she sat beside her with her eyes fixed on her face.
“I want us to talk” Beryl sat up and looked at her too. “Do you have a boyfriend?” she asked.
Cheryl couldn’t believe the question as she let out a smile. The question also made her mind wander to Jaydan instantly coz he was the only one she developed true love for.
“No, i don’t have a boyfriend” she replied. “Why are you asking?”
“Because i want you to get married for the lineage of this family to go on”
“What! Why? Why me? Mom and i have been praying that you get married, now you want me to get married before you. Beryl what’s going on?”
Hearing all that, Beryl’s emotions arose thereby making her to start shedding tears. She couldn’t just let the cat out of the bag coz she didn’t believe that she won’t have a child for her whole life. But it has become mandatory that she say the truth.
“Listen Cheryl, i know you are just 22 but you need to get married and forget about me because.. because..” she wanted to say but a knock from the door interrupted her. She cleaned her tears instantly as Cheryl went to open the door to see Gavin standing behind it.
“Coming” she ushered him in then went upstairs immediately.
Gavin sat beside Beryl with a bag in his hand. He noticed she wasn’t okay then gently kept the bag apart.
“Are you worried of something?”
“No, i was just..”
“Beryl” Gavin interrupted by holding her two hands and looking into his eyes. “I know that something bothers you. I want to also let you know that I’ll always be here to listen to you. Beryl, give me a chance to prove my love for you coz i love you with all my heart”
Hearing that, Beryl withdrew her hands from his and adjusted away from him with a glare in her eyes. She hated the word ‘love’ coz that was what kept her in the situation she was into.
Seeing the glare on her face, Gavin said, “I think am gonna receive another slap from u but i don’t mind”
“Gavin, I’m afraid, I’m not the kind of woman you’ll like to have as a girlfriend or whatever” Beryl said seriously.
“Why?”
“Because I’m.. I’m.. i mean i don’t have.. umm..”
“You don’t have what?” Gavin tried to help out staring at her. He saw her hands quivering. Just then, another knock came from the door-Ethel and Ezra were knocking..

Ethel also took a bath after Ezra approved her request. She stood before a standing mirror wearing only a pant and a bra and rubbing cream all over her body. She occasionally admired herself in the mirror remembering how she made herself so cheat for Gavin to use. She heaved a heavy sigh then bent to rub her legs with the cream but turned instantly to the voice of Ezra.
“I guess this cloth gonna fit you” Ezra raised the cloth up with her two hands. It was a red long gown that seemed a bit long for Ethel coz she hardly wears something that goes beyond her knees except trouser. She smiled looking at it which made Ezra changed her mind.
“I can change it and get you a skirt and a shirt if you don’t like it” she wanted to go back but Ethel called her back.
“Is okay, Ezra, after service today I’ll got get my cloths. But before then, i think this gown is much more better”
“Okay, try it”
Ethel wore the gown before her friend who couldn’t believe how fitted it was on her. She moved closer to help her zip up then bent to get shoes for her too. She had always been lonely wanting a second person in the house and now she has Ethel which was her biggest happiness.
“You know what, Ethel..” she handed the shoes to her and watched her wear it. “I’m happy that you’re actually staying with me but after today’s service, I’ll follow you to your house to tell your mother to change her ways and obsession towards money and let you live a valuable life like a beautiful young lady you are. You know how tough we use to be for men back then in school” she chuckled along with Ethel.
“Yes, i know that, Ezra, but i don’t want you to go talking to my mother about anything. She will never listen to you”
“I disagree on that. First, let’s go to church”
“Okay” they found their way to church.

Gavin had no choice but to release her mother from the police station. Both were seen in the hotel room sitting quietly on the edge of the bed after the mother had told him everything, even the reason why she forced Ethel on him. Suddenly, Gavin stood up angrily.
“I can’t believe how you messed up a happy family! I can’t believe you also planned to kill Beryl all because of your stupid secret! Now look at us..”
“It’s a mistake of the past oh” the mother cried.
“Yes, a mistake of the past. Now i believe you can hear the echo. Look at where it has landed us. I spent my whole life believing that Mr Lewis is my father not knowing that I’m the son of a heartless crook! And to my greatest dismay, my own best friend who also betrayed me is my cousin brother. How small this world is.”
“Son, you need to forgive me oh” the mother went on her knees with tears in her eyes.
“How many people will you tell to forgive you, mom? Is it my father, Judith or Beryl? You better start fixing up your mess from today coz i want my life back” Gavin entered into the bathroom leaving her mother to cry.

Ethel barged into the house and began to park her belongings. Her room became scattered due to how hurriedly she flung her clothes and other things into her box. Just then, Mrs Veronica, the mother entered.
“Ethel, where have you been and what are you doing?”
“What does it look like I’m doing? I’m leaving this God forsaking house without you or my father’s help” she closed the box and began to go out. The mother followed her.
“Listen, Ethel, your father and i have planned to leave too to a better house, a mansion. There is money now”
Ethel turned just in the living room. “Never will i partake on that blood money, mother. Don’t you watch movies? They don’t last!” she turned heading towards the door. Sooner did her father came out too and said, “You can leave if you want. Because you’ve drank the water in which the money was made, any day you tell anyone about it, you will die”
Ethel stared at her father reasoning what he said. That was the only thing she had been avoiding. How would she go about it now? Nevertheless, she spat on the floor of the house and left instantly.

A MONTH LATER
Rex had been healed but wasn’t discharged from the hospital. Of course he knew he would be going straight to jail if discharged. Meanwhile, Jaydan had been in a police cell regretting his actions.
As Judith was summoned home by Mr Lewis, her father, so as Ethel sat quietly in a doctor’s office twisting her fingers in fear. She dressed like a virgin Mary. A head-tie, long voluminous gown and a jingling rosary on her wrist. She had been feeling strange lately so decided to do a test. Suddenly, the female doctor entered and sat opposit her.
“Young lady, you are a month pregnant”
“Doctor, that can’t be true”
“See the result yourself” the doctor handed the result to her. She looked at it critically and confirm that she was a month pregnant.
“If this is true that means Gavin isn’t impotent” she absent-mindedly thought..

“How can you tell them to take me too, son?” Mrs Edna asked bringing her hands for a handcuff which of course was cuffed by the policeman. Already, Jaydan, had been pushed into the back of the police vehicle. As they led Mrs Edna to the vehicle too, the senior officer came inside the room with a hand in his pocket. He looked at dead Rex on the floor then to Mrs Laura seeing how her children cried beside her.
“Sir, we’ve called an ambulance to come pick the dead bodies” he told Gavin.
“Okay” he replied.
Just as the officer wanted to step forward, Rex groaned alive on the floor moving his hand slowly.
“Oh, he’s still alive” the officer ordered him to be taken into the vehicle and all drove out straight to the hospital where he was admitted and taken care of instantly.
However, Mrs Laura, Raymond and Tunde had been taken to the mortuary.

MR SCOTT’S RESIDENCE. TIME: 12NOON

Gavin brought Beryl and Cheryl home. Rose and Nora were more than happy to see them but at the same time sad about the death of their mother. Some policemen with the senior officer followed them home too. All could be seen sitting in the living room except some officers, Rose and Nora who stood behind couches like body-guards.
“We’re sorry for your lost” the senior officer began sitting directly to Beryl and her sister. “We want to know why you were kidnapped by those men” he added.
“They believed their parents were killed by my father thus trying to take revenge” Beryl replied.
“You mean Rex’s parents?” Gavin inferred.
“Yes”
“But he never told me about it”
“I guess he kept it from u because of their plans to take revenge. But they should have reported to us” the senior officer clarified then looked at Beryl again. “We would like to know how it all happened”
“You mean why they believe my father killed their parents?” Beryl asked.
“Yes”
Beryl glanced at her sister before taking another glance at Gavin. She didn’t know exactly what happened in the past, so became afraid that she might say what would put her or her remaining family into trouble.
“Umm.. before my Dad established Scotryl Company, he needed some people to work for him in one of his small scale businesses and Raymond was one of them..”
“Who is Raymond?” the police interrupted.
“Rex’s uncle, the man shot dead” Gavin replied then Beryl looked at him wondering why he didn’t refer him as his father coz she witness when his mother confessed that. Nevertheless, she waved it off and continued her story. “Raymond introduced his brother to my father and his brother introduced his wife. After sometimes, it was heard that they had been missing and killed too. A year later my father died after doing successfully making us get to the level we are now”
“Were the body of the two couple seen?” the officer asked.
“I don’t think so”
“That means there is a probability that they might still be alive”
“If so officer, i want you to carry out an investigation on that” Gavin interfered looking at the officer who stood up immediately.
“Okay, sir” he left with his men.
The room remained only Gavin, the two sisters and two workers who approached closer to their madam but to see Gavin standing up instantly to leave too. He instructed both of them.
“You girls should please take care of your madam for now” he said then turned to Beryl to see her staring at him without knowing what to say. Gavin also lacked words immediately their eyes caught steadily. Coincidentally, both were thinking about the same thing; the hot slap Beryl gave to him at the restaurant. Remembering that, Gavin came back to his senses.
“Umm.. Beryl, I’m sorry for your lost.. umm.. see you later” he began to walk towards the door. At reaching there, Beryl stood up and said, “Thank you!”
Gavin turned with a hand on the doorknob. After series of eyes contact with her, he clutched the knob and went out without a word. That got Beryl worried.

THE NEXT DAY AT EZRA’S APARTMENT. TIME CHECKED 6:15AM

It was a beautiful Sunday morning. Christian song could be heard from distant and close neighbourhoods. Ethel was still sleeping on the bed wearing a pyjamas given to her by Ezra. She sluggishly woke to see her friend coming out from the bathroom with a towel tied round her chest again and moving towards the wardrobe.
“Babe, good morning” Ezra greeted with a smile but from her movement, Ethel knew she was in a hurry.
“Where are you rushing to?” she asked
“I can’t believe you’re asking me that” Ezra turned. “I’m hurrying to church” she added.
Ethel had no idea that the day was Sunday and had never been to church. So she jumped down from the bed. “May i follow you to church?” she requested..

In the hotel room, Mrs Edna came out of the bathroom to find her son gone. She headed towards the window through which she saw him entering a taxi. “Where’s he going to?” she murmured with a hand on her chest. She sat on the edge of the bed for a while then reached her phone. The first button she clicked displayed the message Raymond sent to her thus giving her the idea where her son was going to.

Gavin didn’t want to call the police until he confirmed his gesture. Since he knew a road to the address, a shorter one, he didn’t hesitate to be there as soon as possible. Though the policemen were on the right track too but the possibility of them getting to the area on time was very low. Gavin could be seen running into a narrow bushy road. There were no completed buildings, all he could see were bushes and scanty uncomplicated buildings. He wondered where he was going but didn’t lose hope. “Since this is the address i saw on my mom’s phone that means something must be happening here regardless it’s nature of quietness and loneliness” he thought then stopped after running for a while. He tried to listen but his panting alone couldn’t let him hear distant chattering or anything, so he waited to catch his breath. Just then, he heard a female voice that shouted, “Please, don’t kill her, i beg you!”
The voice sounded familiar and Gavin turned to the direction sighting a building with a closed roof without windows. “Beryl?” he said then continued running again until he got there making himself unknown as he hid at the widow seeing everything.
However, Raymond had left his fingers on the trigger calling on Tunde to finish Mrs Laura up as he stepped outside. Before Tunde could also pull the trigger neglecting the shouting and crying of the two sisters, Gavin had defeated Raymond outside, took his gun and pointed it on his head as the other hand wrapped round his neck. He dragged him into the room.
“Stop or he dies!” he shouted then everybody’s eyes went to them.
“Gavin?” Beryl called with an overwhelming happiness.
Already, Rex had pointed his gun at Gavin too. “Release him now!”
“Never, until you release Beryl and her family” Gavin replied.
“I see” Rex turned his gun at Beryl. “I guess you gonna let go of my uncle or you see her die” he said.
“No, no, no, please, don’t kill my daughter rather kill me” Mrs Laura defended. Just then, Mrs Edna arrived. Seeing the position Gavin held Raymond, she became terrified and knelt down before them as everybody looked at her surprisingly.
“Mom, what are you doing? I can’t believe you are part of this!” Gavin lamented.
“No, please, bring down your gun. He’s your father!” Mrs Edna confessed then everybody became shocked and quiet even Raymond.
Meanwhile, the policemen had surrounded the building.
As the silence lingered inside the room, Rex shouted, “I don’t give a demn!” he pulled the trigger at Beryl.
“No!” Gavin screamed along with Cheryl. Suddenly, a bullet from one of the policemen also shot Rex and he died instantly. Seeing that, Tunde jumped through the window to run but was also shot dead. Raymond also hit Gavin hardly, took the gun from him to shoot Cheryl but another policeman shot him dead too. Only Jaydan and Mrs Edna stood at a spot with hands up while Gavin rushed Beryl…

EZRA’S APARTMENT
Ethel sat on the centre of Ezra’s bed with her legs folded and two hands placed on the jaw seriously lust in thought. Suddenly, Ezra entered with a towel tied from her chest. She just came out from the bathroom heading towards the wardrobe.
“Babe, you’ve not told me why you don’t want to go back to your house”
“My parents want to ruin my life” Ethel replied.
“How?”
“My mother is making me to be obsexed with the son of a rich man”
“Obsexed?” Ezra sat on the edge of the bed interestingly. “Wait, are you saying that your mother made your mind to be consumed with the thought of having sex with a..”
“Yes..” Ethel interrupted.
“But why?”
“Because of money”
“Gosh! That isn’t right” Ezra placed a hand on her shoulder. “Is okay, you can stay here as long as you want if that’s the case” she added then Ethel nodded her head without telling her the main reason behind her decision to stay there.

Back to the hidden area, Gavin rushed Beryl to find out that she only fainted while the mother collected the bullet for her just to safe her life. Seeing that, Cheryl began to cry while Gavin untie their hands and legs then began to wake Beryl up.
“Beryl, can u hear me? Wake up” he patted her cheek continuously until she opened her eyes.
“Gavin, what happened?” she looked at her mother to see her lying dead on the floor then began to cry also.
Gavin stood up, turned to see Jaydan handcuffed and being pushed outside. “Officer, take this woman too” he pointed at his mother.
“What?” Mrs Edna became surprise..

At the gate, Mr Lewis packed his car behind Gavin’s and stepped out angrily. He wore an expensive dark green senator with shoes that has it’s mouth pointed upward. On his wrist was a golden chain watch and necklace of the same type and colour hanging on his neck. Gavin, haven’t wondered what the mother was doing outside crying, the expression of anger in his father’s eyes increased the perturbation. Initially, he thought the reason of all that was about his impotency he announced to them the previous day in a way to defeat Ethel and her mother but waved it off. That was his own echo of the past he tried not to remember again coz, definitely, it will affect his future. He knew all that, yet fell inlove with Beryl not knowing that she has her own echo of the past too that she tried to forget. But how can one forget that she/he won’t ever have a child? It’s frustrating and heartbroken!
Nevertheless, Gavin couldn’t do anything but to stare at his father coming like an angry loin.
“Dad, what’s going on? Why is mom outside crying?”
“I should be asking you what both of you are doing at my gate”
“I don’t get it!” Gavin exclaimed. How would he had known the reason behind his father’s actions because he had already left the house the previous day before Mrs Veronica finally exposed the mother in the presence of his father.
“listen Gavin, i don’t want to see you or your mother around my house or any of my properties again!” Mr Lewis warned. He looked at Gavin’s hand to see his car key jingling in his finger, so he moved closer and said, “Hand over the car keys to me” When Gavin hesitated in confusion, he forcefully dragged it from him. “Thank God you aren’t my son, you impotent fool” he concluded. His last words did not only render Gavin speechless but also broke his heart thereby activating his tears gland to produce tears but he held it back as a man and watched the gate opened as the father drove the two cars inside the compound then the gate closed. He turned to his mother.
“Mom, whose son am i?” he asked calmly.
“It’s a long story my son” Mrs Edna replied.
Gavin became totally weak and sat down on the floor. His head wandered to several things; first Beryl, second, his past and third, his real father. Thank God he had his credit-card with him and some amount of money in his account..

The policemen arrived to the cemetery but found nobody there. Its entry has a hallow gate that enable people see several graves with the sign of crucifix on each of them. The ground of the entry was more with sandy soil starting from the main road. One of the men watched the ground critically to see marks of motor tyres and suspicious foot steps that seemed like a fight took place around the arena. He squat down looking at it attentively. “Sir!” he waved his hand for the senior officer to come. “It seems this is where the kidnapping took place”
The officer observed it critically too. “Trace this tyre marks to the main road and tell me the direction it followed” he instructed.
The policeman did as he said tracing the mark to the mean road. “Sir, it headed west”
“Alright, move it!” they ran out of the cemetery going west with much observation and unification.

As kind as Gavin is, he took his mother to a hotel room to get all the details he wanted about his identity. The room had an active rotating ceiling fan and an Air Condition. A large bed could be seen at a corner covered with white bedshit. Beside it was a refrigerator, table lamp and a wooden cardboard that has a few chest of drawers. Mrs Edna and Gavin sat on the edge of the bed quietly but not in a close range. Gavin wore a brown jacket with an inner black polo. On his feet were white canvas worn over an ash jean trouser.
“Mom, who the hell is my father and does Judith know about this?”
“No, she doesn’t”
Judith is Gavin’s sister who school abroad. Mrs Edna gave birth to her four years after Gavin. She is the only true child of Mr Lewis.
Just as Mrs Edna wanted to answer Gavin’s second question, her phone rang-Judith was calling.
“Hello, mom”
“How are you Judith?”
“I’m not fine, i wonna come back home”
“You mean Nigeria?”
“Yes”
“Why?”
“Coz no place like home, mom”
Mrs Edna smiled. “I guess you should call your father dear” she said.
“He isn’t picking my calls. What’s going on and how’s my brother Gavin?” Judith was

Mrs Edna handed the phone to Gavin and entered into the bathroom still regretting her past.
After Gavin ended the call with his sister, he checked the phone’s dialed contacts. The last contact he saw was Raymond. He also went through her messages to the the address of the hidden area Raymond sent to her. He reasoned critically then understood that there was a time the mother threatened Beryl and hated her. With that gesture, he flung the phone and the bed running to the hidden area using the address..

Ezera had to drag Ethel up to the couch behind her. They were age mates, the same height and body type-slim. The only thing odd about them were differences in personality and body complexion. Ezera was darker than Ethel. They had been close friends from high school, yet, Ethel had never mentioned to her about the way her mother forces her to marry and sleep with the son of a rich man all because of money. Though there was a time they separated for a long time due to Ezera went to the village after her education. That was when Ethel met Beryl and both became friends.
“Ethel, talk to me. Who is chasing you and why are you crying?” Ezera sat opposit her trying to dry her tears. Would she tell her the truth about her panting and crying? That must be a very hard decision. She tried to hold her tears then turned to Ezera.
“Please, can i stay with you for sometimes?”
“Sure, what are friends for?” Ezera stood up. “Let me finish up with the breakfast. I guess this is not the right time for you to tell me what the problem is” she shook her butt into the kitchen. Her parents weren’t rich and lived in the village but she lacked nothing coz her uncles help her. They were actually the one who found her a minor job and an apartment for her too.

Cheryl and Mrs Laura the mother had already woken up to find Beryl in between them. They had looked around the room to see nothing but a burnt candle and scattered local bed. Their eyes had also being unfolded but their hands and legs glued together with a rope.
“Beryl!” Cheryl had shouted when she woke with her eyes uncovered then began to cry.
“Is okay, everything gonna be alright” Beryl had also consoled her sister with tears in her eyes.
“What problem is this for Christ sake?” Mrs Laura had cried bitterly also consoled by her daughter.
Presently, three of them sat on the floor waiting for the next action to take place without seeing any single person. Already, Beryl had briefed them on the person behind their kidnapping and the reason why. Suddenly, Tunde and Jaydan entered with guns. Cheryl was shocked at the sight of Jaydan therefore said, “Jaydan?”
“Do you know him?” Beryl asked.
“He’s my.. my.. my friend at school” Cheryl looked at Jaydan again and said. “What are you doing?”
“I’m sorry, Cheryl, my friendship with you was an unexpected coincidence. You’re now my worst enemy! Your father had my parents killed for nothing but money!” Jaydan replied without a smile.
“What are you talking about? My father didn’t kill anybody!”
“Ask your mother, she’ll tell you”
Cheryl and Beryl looked at their mother who remained quiet thinking about the past. Everything that was happening were echoes of the past. Some past event reflect in the future and determines the future too whether good or bad. A mistake made in the past might cause a tragedy in the future. Mrs Laura was waited by her children to say something but she remained quiet nodding her head as if gone insane.
“Mom?” Beryl began. “I may not know the full story. What really happened?” she asked. Suddenly, Raymond and Rex rushed in. They were breathing fast like dogs. Instantly, Raymond brought out his gun and pointed at Mrs Laura while Rex pointed his at Beryl. Seeing that, Tunde positioned his own at Cheryl too.
“It’s time to wipe you out from the surface of the earth” Raymond said.
“Please, don’t do this. I beg of you!” Beryl and her sister pleaded in tears.
Only Mrs Laura seemed absent minded at the gun point which proved that she was ready to die. She also recognised Raymond as someone who once worked with her late husband, therefore said, “What made you believe that your brother and his wife were killed by my husband?”
“I don’t have time for this shit!” Raymond raised her finger to pull the trigger..

The police had gone to the residence of Mr Scott to see blood stain in Cheryl’s room. Gavin, Rose and Nora were there. The senior officer called them for an interrogation as a way to locate Beryl and co. They were standing in living room while other policemen search around the house.
“Mr Gavin, when last did you see the Beryl?”
“That was yesterday at a restaurant where i confessed my love for her but she slapped me and left angrily” Gavin replied.
“Wait..” Rose interfered then all looked at her. “If madam Beryl was angry about that, there is a tendency that she was also sad and when she’s sad, she goes to the cemetery”
“How do you know?” the officer asked.
“I’m her secretary, i know some of her lifestyle”
The policemen began to run to the cemetery without Gavin who drove back home with his car but unfortunately saw his mother sitting at the gate of the house crying. He stepped out from the car to know what was going on. Before he could ask her mother anything, Mr Lewis, the father arrived in his own car too..

Due to the love of money, Mrs Veronica became not only happy with what she saw but was overwhelmed at the sight of the thousands of money pumping out from the wardrobe. Though she heard the knock at the door but paid deaf ears to it. She was too obsex with money! For that reason, she had had issues with her husband for the past few years. There came a time she threatened to quit the marriage because the husband had a problem with his career thus rendered them bankrupt. But now, lo and behold money calling right in her presence without even having a rethink on how it came about. What a stupid woman? She glanced at her smiling husband.
“My husband..”
“This is money, woman. Never will you complain of it again”
“Amen ooh”
However, Ethel felt reluctant to enter into the room with her. She was a good girl but misled by her mother. That didn’t erupt her brain not to distinguish between good and bad. She wore a short knicker jean that was more like a bomshot and a red sleeveless top tied round her neck. Suddenly, the mother turned to see her surprise face.
“My daughter, look at money. Come inside”
Ethel shook her head in disagreement. “No, mother, no!!” she ran towards the door, opened it to behold Mrs Edna but ran pass her immediately. The mother who ran after her also came to the door but stopped glaring at Mrs Edna.
“Veronica, what’s happening? What’s wrong with your daughter?”
“I should be asking you what you’re doing here”
“I came to see if you can accommodate me. My husband has kicked me out and denied me the access to all his properties, even my bank account”
Mrs Veronica laughed in a mockery manner clapping her hands at the same time. “What did you expect when you were messing around with Raymond? Now your past has come crushing down on you. I don’t want to see you in my house not now that we are very rich” she banged the door then locked it from inside forgetting she was after her daughter. Oh!
“Please, i beg you, Veronica” Mrs Edna began to shed tears. She thought of what she said about being rich but waved it off. “Veronica, remember that you’re the cause of all this thing oh! Please, help me!” she pleaded.

The speed in which Nora ran along the road made people wonder what was pursuing her. She was a good runner back in her high school days where she always came first in a any female race competition. That alone gave her fame added to her figure-eight body typology which drove male students crazy. Even straight female students admired the structure and wished they could also feel the texture of the body thus knowing how sweet she would be down there. One of them once approached her but she made it specifically clear to her that she isn’t a lesbian.
Nevertheless, she ran along a street that led to Scotryl Company. At reaching there, she saw some policemen parading around the company. One of them was able to recognise her therefore approached closer. Even the bandage on her head made everything clear to him.
“Hey, what are you doing here? You should be in the hospital”
Nora didn’t respond immediately still trying to catch her breath with two hands on her knees. Just then, Rose and co arrived running to meet her. They couldn’t believe it was her. They had suddenly changed their mind about informing the police.
“Nora, what happened?” Rose asked.
“I escaped” she replied.
“Escape?” the policemen drew closer.
“Yes, the doctor had a gun and forced me to admit that i was rapped” she looked at Rose. “That’s why i couldn’t tell you guys the truth”
“Young lady, you mean you weren’t rapped?” the officer asked.
“Yes”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes! It’s a set up”
The officer made a call instantly and they all headed to the hospital with Nora and Rose only. When there got there, the doctor was nowhere to be found and all went to the station where Gavin was released. He kept glaring at Rose and Nora as he dressed up. Sooner did a senior police officer came out.
“We are sorry sir for the inconveniences. We promise to get to the root of this case”
“I can’t believe Rex set me up!” Gavin shouted in anger.
“Do you know where we can find this Rex?”
“Yes”
“Madam Beryl and her family are also missing sir” Rose interfered.
“What!” Gavin turned sharply looking at her but turned back to the police officer. “Do whatever you can to find them. I’ll take care of Rex myself” he ordered.
“On it sir. Hey, move it!” the officer commanded his men and all began to drive to the residence of Mr Scott to start the investigation from there.

Ethel ran into the apartment of her old friend, Ezera, panting continuously and suddenly broke down in tears as she slumped on the floor. Ezera, who rushed out from the kitchen hearing the door banged forcefully became surprise. She went to the door to see if there was somebody behind the panting and crying of her friend but found nobody. She locked the door.
“Ethel, what’s the problem?” she asked standing before her…

Rose and co stared at Nora as they waited for an answer. They could see her shivering and glancing at the doctor to the extent he became suspicious in the eyes of the girls. When the doctor noticed it, he said, “Who are u girls? I guess it’s time to let her be”
“Doctor, we just want her to tell us the truth. Our company has been locked down because of this” Rose insisted.
“Tell us Nora, were you rapped?” Gloria queried again. Now with all seriousness, yet Nora kept quiet.
“Come on, young girl, tell them the truth” the doctor inferred.
Nora looked at Rose steadily, the look became intense that even Rose tried to figure out what she was trying to tell her but unfortunately she shook her head positively. “Yes, i was rapped” she said aloud then glanced at the doctor again.
“By who?” James asked.
“Madam Beryl’s boyfriend”
Gloria and Ruth gasped in disbelief while Rose straightened up quietly still staring at Nora. She knew something was fishy. Sooner were all of them sent outside by the doctor even when they requested to take Nora along.
Outside the hospital, the guys stood in amazement. Only Rose walked to and fro with her hair slid occasionally in confusion.
“Why wouldn’t the doctor allow Nora follow us? Something isn’t just right”
“Wait oh” Ruth began. “We all were there when Madam’s boyfriend carried Nora running to the hospital. If at all he rapped her, why must he also be the one to carry her to the hospital?”
“Excellent!” Rose turned sharply. “We must find out the truth. But first, let’s go report the missing of madam Beryl and her family to the police” they all hurried out.
Back inside the hospital, the doctor led Nora to a lonely room and locked her up.

Mr Lewis, Gavin’s father climbed down the staircase well dressed with a briefcase. Already, all his house workers were back doing their duties. He instructed them and went straight to Gavle Silver Lounge Resort to find his wife coming out through the gate. She became shocked to see him.
“Good morning my husband”
“Who is your husband and what are you doing here? Get out of this place! I don’t want to ever see you around any of my properties again!” Mr Lewis pushed her out. He summoned the receptionist of the hotel instantly who stood in amazement. The young girl wore a white shirt which she tucked-in in a black plain trouser. An ID-card could be seen hanging on her neck.
“Now listen to me” Mr Lewis began. “Any day you allow this woman into this hotel, you’ll be sacked! Even her son”
“Sir, you mean Gavin, your son?” the girl wanted to be sure.
“Quiet my friend! Did i mention him as my son? Even him!”
“Okay, sir” the girl hurried back to her duty post.

As Mrs Edna shed tears on the way regretting her past, so as Nora began to escape from the room where she had been locked by the doctor. The room had a drum and other sharp materials. She looked up to see the ceiling open so she pulled the drum to a corner, climbed on it, and began to climb inside the ceiling. Though she didn’t know how she was gonna come out but needed to be free. She climbed silently making sure nobody noticed her presence until she found her way to the backyard of the hospital where she broke a ceiling and jumped down. Due to the building had no fence, she escaped from there running continuously…

On the other hand, Raymond and Rex stood in Rex’s apartment. Raymond was in a plain trouser with shortleeves shirt while Rex on jean trouser.
“So, how did it go?” Raymond asked.
“Perfect, the company is closed down” Rex replied.
“Good, we must go now and finish up the family of late Mr Scott”
“Sure”
As they tried to move, Rex’s phone rang. He stopped to pick the call after seeing the caller to be the doctor.
“Hello, doctor”
“The girl has escaped”
“Oh, shit! How can you be so stupid? Fuck!” Rex cut the call then looked at his uncle. “The girl has escaped from the hospital”
“That means we have to leave as soon as possible coz the police will be coming after us” Raymond concluded and they ran out..

MR EDWIN’S RESIDENCE. TIME CHECKED: 9:15AM
Ethel couldn’t sleep or slept alone throughout the night knowing that there were unknown dead bodies inside the house. Therefore she slept on the same room with her mother. She could be seen lying asleep on the floor and her mother on the bed. Suddenly, both rushed up at the same time to the voice of Mr Edwin who was shouting in his room. They hurried to go see the cause of his shout. At reaching the door of Mr Edwin’s room, they slowed down remembering the dead bodies. Ethel walked behind her mother with hands engulfed on her waist to take precaution.
