Which part of human body does not grow from birth to death?

February 14, 2019 Add Comment
The Only part of the body that does not grow after birth is the innermost ear ossicle - Stapes (looks like stirrup) which is attached to the oval window of the cochlea. Its size is about 3 mm at birth and doesn’t change in size as we grow. But thinning of the Stapes have been seen with old age. Interestingly, malformation of the Stapes causes more than 60% of congenital middle ear defects.

What causes brown discharge before a period?

October 06, 2018 Add Comment
Brown discharge before a period is usually harmless, and there are many possible reasons for it. Sometimes, it can indicate pregnancy or perimenopause. Less commonly, it could be a sign of an underlying health condition.
Brown discharge before a period is typically a vaginal discharge that contains blood. Brown discharge that occurs when a period is not due may cause worry. However, brown discharge before a period is not typically a cause for concern.
This article explores the various causes of brown discharge before a period. It discusses what this may mean if a person is pregnant, not pregnant, or approaching menopause.
The article also looks at other more serious causes of brown discharge, and when to see a doctor.
What is brown discharge?
Vaginal discharge often occurs on an almost daily basis. Typically, vaginal discharge is thin and clear or white. Sometimes, it may be other colors. When vaginal discharge is brown, it likely contains small amounts of old blood. Old blood that has taken longer to come out of the uterus may be brown.
Brown discharge can occur for a variety of reasons, including.
When not pregnant
Woman experiencing brown discharge looking thoughtful.
A doctor should be consulted if brown discharge causes concern.
When there is no pregnancy, brown discharge may be caused by:
old blood leaving the uterus a few days after the end of a period
a period just beginning to start, where the flow is very light
ovulation spotting, which may be pinkish-brown
a reaction to a Pap smear test or vaginal exam
a reaction to having sex, especially if vigorous
During pregnancy
Pink or brown discharge or spotting before a period may be an early sign of pregnancy. Not every pregnant person will experience this symptom, but some do.
This discharge is caused by implantation bleeding that can happen when the fertilized egg burrows into the uterus lining. Implantation bleeding can occur 1 to 2 weeks after the egg has been fertilized.
Anyone who experiences implantation bleeding following unprotected sex should take a pregnancy test.
Anyone who is pregnant and experiences dark brown discharge should speak to a doctor. However, brown discharge during pregnancy is not usually a cause for concern. In rare cases, it may indicate an ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage.
Approaching menopause
For those people in their 40s or 50s, brown discharge before a period may be a sign of perimenopause.
Perimenopause is the transition period before menopause when periods stop. Other symptoms may include:
mood swings
hot flushes
night sweats
trouble sleeping
vaginal dryness
More serious causes of brown discharge
There are some other more serious causes of brown discharge. These may occur at any age regardless of whether there is a pregnancy. They are likely to be accompanied by other symptoms.
More serious causes include:
Pelvic inflammatory disease
3D render of uterus
PID affects the cervix and uterus.
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection of the cervix and uterus that can cause brown discharge. Other symptoms may include:
pain in the pelvis and lower abdomen
pain during sex
fever
smelly vaginal discharge
burning sensation when urinating
Anyone who thinks they might have PID should speak to their doctor. If the doctor diagnoses PID, they may prescribe antibiotics to treat it.
Sexually transmitted disease
Brown discharge before a period may indicate a sexually transmitted disease (STD), such as gonorrhea or chlamydia. Other symptoms may include:
burning sensation when urinating
smelly discharge
pain during sex
Not all people with STDs experience symptoms, which is why it is essential for all sexually-active people to be tested regularly for STDs.
Most STDs are easy to treat, although some are more serious and require more involved treatment. Treatment may include a course of antibiotics.
Retained foreign body
Bad-smelling brown discharge can occur if a foreign object gets left in the vagina accidentally. Objects that can cause this might include:
tampons
condoms
vaginal contraceptive sponges, diaphragms, or cervical caps
contraceptive rings
Anyone who notices a brown discharge with an odor should see their doctor, as they may have a retained object or vaginal infection.

4 foods that may make your period worse

September 18, 2018 Add Comment

Women find it hard dealing with period. They often experience pain during this period.

There are certain foods women need to avoid during their period. These foods can make them feel more pain.

Here are four foods that may make your period worse:

1. Salty foods

Studies show that salty foods can make the pain worsen when a woman is experiencing periods.

They cause retention of water in the body.  The foods containing salt tend to increase the bloat hence leaving one very uncomfortable.

2. Coffee

Caffeine normally increases the discomfort a woman experiences during this time.

The caffeine makes the vessels of your blood to constrict.

When taken in large quantities, it can make the uterus become tighter.

When this happens, you will experience more pain than before.

3. Sugar

Avoid sugar during this time. The rise in the level of sugar will cause you more pain at the end of the day.

Sugar can also lead to inflammation hence it should be avoided by all means.

4. Fatty meat

Fatty meat is a big no while you are on your period.

The meat can make the pain to worsen.

Meat with fats contains arachidonic acid that can make your uterine to contract.

Episode 16
NADIA: Maybe I didn’t know the extent of the damage. But seriously, how did Brenda find out it was Serena teaching me.
“Brenda, are you OK? What’s wrong with you? And who is Serena?”
I feigned the best character to suit my pretense.
She gave me that look. Took her steps backwards, and smiled like she had achieved something.
Of course she didn’t buy my scene.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you..”
I watched till she was out of sight before I let out a sigh of relief.
I had quickened my steps to my room. It was break time. And I was free to stroll around. But I had to resolve to my shell. When I mean my shell, I mean my room.
DANIEL: Brenda was foaming. I could tell. Yet she didn’t fall for my inquisitive charm to get the info out of her.
“It’s nothing”
Was all she kept telling me.
I could tell that all eyes were on us in the relaxation spot. ‘Wetin concern me’
I just had one problem now. I didn’t know how to get this Brenda to my bed. That my roommate, Akin. His eyes would be on us like torchlight. And there is no way she as a supervisor and a lady can venture into the guys hostel.
“I just wonder if there is a place we could just be alone?”
I suggested.
She forced a smile
“There is a place actually”
My ears stood at attention. But then, just as she opened her mouth, a text obstructed her. And killed my initial hopes. Who texted her at that moment eh? I had to spy to catch a glimpse of the text.
I couldn’t get the full text but I was able to catch “If Nadia knows. Bring her to me”
She quickly cautioned herself and turned to see if I was spying. Trust me nah. As a sharp guy. My eyes were on my own phone already.
My head began to race with thoughts, what was going on?
God. What had Nadia gotten herself into?
NADIA:
I was just by the door when I remembered Joyce. I froze and attempted to tiptoe away but the girl had to open up.
“Get in”
She ordered. And some how I just obeyed and bowed like a scared kid who committed a grievous offense.
“Joyce if I had..”
She didn’t even let me land.
“You know I picked you out of everyone. There are a million who would jump at this offer. But I chose you. Cos I wanted mum to brush you up, and save you from a disgrace”
I attempted to butt in again but she hushed me
“Do you have any idea? I gave a simple instruction, but you chose your ego over my mum’s identity”
Ok she was taking it too far. I didn’t damage anything nah. I just prepared the dish. How does that connect to Serena.
“Joyce, I just prepared the dish, what’s bad in that? She was going to disgrace me?”
Trust me, I left out the part where Brenda had confronted me.
With the present situation, that would spring forth fire.
“Because she wanted you too! How would you understand? When you are concerned about your pride?! I warned you not too. But you wouldn’t listen.. You wanna blow up everything right?! You are so dumb!”
I paused and tried to justify myself again
“Joyce, calm down”
I advised, although I knew I was in need of my own advice. My adrenaline was heating up already.
“Am sure she has spilled this to him now”
She was soliloquizing aloud.
“All because of your daft attitude!”
She barked at me again
Ok, I did something wrong but the insults was becoming unbearable.
“What is it?! If you had texted me in details I wouldn’t prepare it! If you were in my shoes you would do the same! Don’t play righteous here ok. And please don’t ever call me dumb. None of these gives you the right to insult me!”
I barked back. What is it self? Did I commit murder.
She was quiet. Strangely quiet. Staring at me. I was staring back.
“Nadia, your private lesson ends. From this minute. You are on your own!”
She dropped the bombshell and it exploded right in my brain.

The Body Will Give You These 10 Signs If Your Kidney Is In Danger

September 02, 2018 Add Comment

Your kidneys are one of the smallest organs in your body, but they have one of the biggest jobs—they filter out all of the toxins you encounter every day. In fact, your kidneys must filter 20-150 quarts of blood just to produce 1 to 2 quarts of urine, which is composed of wastes and extra fluids ( 1 ).
Each of your kidneys has close to one million tiny filters known as nephrons. Typically, you are born with two kidneys. These small bean-shaped organs sit right under your rib cage, one on each side of your spine. While you can live with only one kidney, it can be very taxing on your body and eventually, you may require dialysis if the kidney becomes overwhelmed.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 10 adults in the US -more than 20 million people- have some level of chronic kidney disease (CKD) ( 2 ). And these numbers are only rising as more and more people develop chronic symptoms associated with kidney problems.
One of the reasons CKD is on the rise, according to experts, is that often people with serious kidney issues may not show any symptoms until the disease has progressed to the point they need hospitalization.

What Causes CKD?
Most often, CKD occurs when a disease or condition weakens your kidneys, causing damage that worsens over several months or even years.
Several conditions can cause CKD, the most common include ( 3 ):
Diabetes : Type 1 or type 2
High blood pressure
Glomerulonephritis: Inflammation of the glomeruli (the tiny filters in your kidneys)
Interstitial nephritis: Inflammation of the tubules and surrounding structures within the kidneys
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD)
Prolonged obstruction of the urinary tract caused by such things as an enlarged prostate, kidney stones and some cancers
Vesicoureteral reflux: A condition that causes urine to back up into your kidneys
Recurrent kidney infections: Also known as pyelonephritis
Any symptoms of kidney distress should be taking seriously, and at the first sign you should head to your doctor.
He or she may choose to do either a blood or a urine test immediately to check for any kidney problems.
In the interim, here are 10 telltale signs your kidneys are in trouble according to the National Kidney Center
