The ward went quiet immediately..Th
ey all stared in shock..
"Calm down Binah..I'm sure there is an explanation"
Aduke..George and Jide approached the doctor..the doctor went in to check her while they waited outside..everyo
ne prayed it was nothing serious
The doctor came out and the all rushed to him with curiosity
"It is as I feared..she suffered an injury in her spinal cord..the bullet had grazed it a bit.. It needs time to heal..before she can use her legs"
Jide's heart missed a bit
"How long is this going to take doctor?"
George asked further
"A month..a year..years or it might take forever..depend
ing on Binah's body system and its capacity to heal"
Aduke had to sit..to let the news sink into her brain..how would Binah take it..that there is a possibility she would never walk again
"So, what did the doctor say?"
Binah asked with curiosity, she feared what their reply might be..nobody could say a word
"No..no"
Tears began to drop from her eyes..she read them well..she saw in their expression that she had been paralysed..Jide rushed to her and placed her head on his shoulder
"Sssssshhh..you would walk Binah..I know you would"
Aduke joined them and so did others..they all sat around her
"We are here for you Binah..we are"
George encouraged
Paul visited the next day and met Binah on a wheel chair..he was short of words..he was disappointed..this wasn't what he signed up for..he was about to say something when Jide walked in
"Jide..let's talk outside"
Binah read him already..she shook her head..she pitied herself
"What are you still with her Jide.. The girl is paralysed"
Jide frowned at him
"So?"
"So? I Moved on..I just realised that you should too..my wife must walk on two legs na..not four wheels"
Jide was quiet for a while..and for a moment there Paul actually thought he made sense
"You never loved Binah. It was mere lust..get out of my sight"
Jide was angry and Paul noticed. He simply walked out..there was no way he would Marry a paralysed woman..If Jide wants to go ahead..its none of his business
Jide went back to the ward and met Binah crying. He didn't say a word..he picked her from the wheel chair
"Put me..
"Sshhhh"
He hushed her and carried her to his car
"You're getting discharged now"
He placed her gently inside his car..before she could protest he brought his surprise package. A black ring case..a flashy diamond engagement ring
"Binah. Please marry me"

Episode 18
"Stop this joke Jide"
She turned her face away..a tear escaped from her eyes..what was Jide thinking..was he mocking her because of her condition?
"Binah please I can't imagine life without you"
Jide pushed on
"What is wrong with you Jide?!..look at me! Am paralysed..why will you marry a paralyzed woman?! Am totally useless to you!
She turned to face him..shouting on top of her voice..was Jide out of his mind?
"Because..because..I..because I love you Binah"
Her defenses melted instantly..she opened her mouth to protest but no words came out..how did he do it? How could caress her with just three words she had heard from lots of guys..which really didn't mean anything until now..
"Binah do you love me?"
A delicate question.. Did she?..she knew she was attracted to him..she knew she would strangely give herself to save him..but she had not truly loved a man before. If what she felt was love she would want to be sure first
"I don't know Jide. I don't know how to love"
Before he put his head down in disappointment..she cupped his cheek in her hands and pecked him on his lips
"But I'll marry you..cos with you..I'm not scared of being vulnerable..I just hope you know what you're doing"
"What?..Jide wants to marry you?"
Aduke questioned in shock like she did not hear what Binah had said.
"Yes mum"
Aduke saw in her expression that she still didn't believe he was really going to marry her
"Mum..please answer with honesty..if you were Jide would you marry me"
Aduke didn't hesitate to answer
"No"
"Then what the hell is wrong with with Jide?"
She questioned back in hurt..
"He is in love Binah. That's the power of love..give him the benefit of doubt"
Binah nod her head in agreement. But she still didn't feel safe..what if Jide realises that she was a mistake and change his mind..or better still do not show up on their wedding day
"Am scared mum..am scared"
Aduke went to her..knelt down and hugged her..there was no word left to say
Paul visited Jide at the company the moment he heard the news
"Jide I heard the news..its all on the papers"
Before Jide could say a word he hushed him
"look out in the open..i know your are blinded to see that you are ruining your reputation..and Binah uses men to do her bidding. She used and dump me..think about it Jide. She used you.. both of us to put your father in prison"
He paused for a while. Jide was quiet..
"You are going to realise she used you. I just pray it won't be too late"
